We love to act a little nuts around camp.
Sure, for some of us it’s not acting. But hey, it’s camp…nuts is good.
We invite and welcome all nuts at camp, unless you’re a peanut or tree nut, in that case…stay at home.
Chef Robb and the rest of the kitchen staff work diligently to keep Camp Aldersgate a peanut and tree nut free zone. They are also able to accommodate most other food allergies and sensitivities.
And now that we have a homemade from scratch menu and don’t serve food from our freezer, this is much easier for us to do.
In fact when recently asked about this topic, our Food Service Manager, Audrey, said; “It’s not uncommon for us to be preparing meals each week of camp for campers with a varity of allergies and food sensitivities.”
Chef Robb is onsite during camper check-in on Sunday’s to speak with the “chauffeurs” of campers arriving to camp with special dietary needs.
In addition to also catering to dietary choices such as vegetarians, we have served campers and guest who have celiac disease, are lactose intolerant, have abdominal migraines, allergic to specific ingredients, have diabetes, and more.
If you have a specific question…or want one of the recipes Chef Robb has used to serve a camper or guest with a special dietary need, email us.
If you know someone with kids who is looking for a camp that will accommodate special dietary issues, please share this post with them.
A mom of two girls highly allergic to peanuts was at camp just this past weekend. She said, “I’m actually walking about without their epi pens. That’s unusual for us in a place like this. It’s such a peace of mind to know they are safe here. You should tell people you do this.” In fact, she told us several times to share this. So, here you go. Help us spread the word.
A SPECIAL NOTE TO ALUMNI: Peanut Butter Yuckies still live on at camp. We use a peanut butter substitute, no body ever knows….until now of course.
What’s your favorite meal from camp?
How do you make peanut butter yuckies?? Our kids loves them
